How to Take Care of Your Canterbury Classics

January 5, 2021

It's important to take care of the things that you love most. Including your Canterbury Classics! If you want to keep your books looking beautiful for years to come, follow these tips below...

Word Cloud Classics

Because these beauts have such buttery covers, they can get smudges quite easily. To keep these babies clean, a little bit of gentle soap and water on a nice soft cloth should do the trick!

Leather-bound Classics

According to our Leather supplier, the best way to care for these gorgeous covers is through normal handling. The natural oils from your hands actually nourish the leather fibers! Pretty cool.

Since the leather fibers have been enriched with special oils in the tanning process, there is no need to apply any cream or wax. To clean dirt or spills, use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth to remove soap residue. Dry with a clean soft towel. Never use alcohol, cleaning solvents, oils, varnishes or polishes. Avoid extreme temperatures.

In Conclusion...

The only way to prevent cracking, fading, and other damage to a book cover (especially a Word Cloud) is to store it properly. This damage is most likely the result of being left in the sun and/or absorbing moisture. Keep your books somewhere away from direct sunlight, and away from any moisture (these are NOT Bathroom Readers 😉).

Follow these tips and your Canterbury Classics should remain beautiful long enough to pass along to your children and grandchildren!
