New Leather-bounds!

October 3, 2018

This month we are releasing three brand-new Leather-bound classics to add to your collection! Looking for inspiration as a female writer? Read over 30 works from different female writers around the world with Classic Works from Women Writers and light that fire that we know is inside you! Want to learn more about ancient Greece? We’ve got that covered too with Ancient Greek Philosophers. Huge Whitman fan? Add our Leather-bound version of Leaves of Grass to your home library. There really is something for everyone this month from Canterbury Classics. Read more about these gorgeous titles below.

Classic Works from Women Writers

Women writers have been making their voices heard for centuries, but their works were not always taken seriously. Over time, as women gained more social and political freedom, these works have reemerged as subjects that are considered to be worthy of closer study. Classic Works from Women Writers is a collection of more than thirty novels, short stories, poems, and essays by prominent and lesser-known female writers since the 17th century.

Included in this volume are groundbreaking works such as Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles, the first Hercule Poirot novel; Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” and her follow-up essay; and poetry from the likes of Christina Rossetti, Amy Lowell, and Sara Teasdale. The words of these authors offer a multitude of perspectives on different issues that affect not only women but the wider world as well.

Fun fact: the cover for our Leather-bound is actually the art used on a poster as well as other materials used to promote the women’s suffrage movement!

Ancient Greek Philosophers

Those of you who participated in our fan poll last year will be excited to see Ancient Greek Philosophers hit shelves this month. It was the second most requested title after Wuthering Heights, which we released in our Word Cloud format earlier this year.

Have you ever wondered about the development of civilization? What topics were discussed in the days of Ancient Greece? This collection of thoughts from Plato, Aristotle, and other masters of philosophy will lead your mind on a journey of enlightened exploration into ethics, morality, law, medicine, and more.

With an introduction by a distinguished scholar of classic literature, this beautiful Canterbury Classics bonded-leather volume with gilded edges and specially designed endpapers is sure to be a favorite keepsake edition in your library.

Leaves of Grass

Leaves of Grass is a timeless collection of poems and essays penned by influential nineteenth-century writer Walt Whitman. This profound compilation explores topics such as nature, mysticism, mortality, transcendentalism, and democracy. Inspired by personal experiences and observations, Whitman spent almost four decades piecing together the complete work, sharing societal ideals and epiphanies about life that still resonate with readers today.

This edition of the complete Leaves of Grass also includes Whitman’s preface to the original 1855 edition, in which he expounds on his personal philosophy of writing poetry, and an introduction by scholar Kenneth C. Mondschein.

Just discovered your leather bound Canterbury Classics. Purchased Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. Are you planning to publish Milton, Wordsworth, Keats, Byron and other poets in this format?
